An Iberia Airbus A340-300, registration EC-KOU performing flight IB-6464 from Guayaquil (Ecuador) to Madrid,SP (Spain), was enroute overhead the Atlantic southwest of the Azores Islands (Portugal) when a male passenger (22) fell seriously sick prompting the crew to divert to Terceira's Lajes Airfield (Azores, Portugal), where the airplane landed safely. The passenger was rushed to a local hospital, but died on the way to the hospital.
The aircraft reached Madrid as flight IB-646D with a delay of 3.5 hours.
Terceira Police reported on Wednesday following an autopsy that the man was carrying a large number of capsules containing Cocaine in his body.
